Tanzania FA President, Wallace: Why We Hired Amuneke
Tanzania Football Federation, President, Wallace Karia has expained the reasons for their choice of former Nigeria international, Emmanuel Amuneke, as new Taifa Stars head coach, reports Completesportsnigeria. com.
Amuneke, 47, on Monday signed a two-year deal to manage the Taifa Stars.
The 1994 African Footballer of the Year winner will also coach all the Tanzanian youth teams and will be assisted by local trainers for each category.
“Amuneke will be with us for two year, but the contract is renewable if he meets the set targets,” Karia said during Amuneke’s unveiling.
“We had so many applications for the Taifa Stars job but after looking at all factors Amuneke emerged as the best candidate for the job.He has established himself and he has been succesful both as a player and coach”
“We will give him all the support he needs to ensure he accomplishes his mission and our focus lies on the 2019 AFCON.”
The former Barcelona winger’s immediate task will be to help the Taifa Stars qualify for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon.
His first official game will be their September 7th, 2019 AFCON qualifier against Uganda in Kampala.
Tanzania were held to a draw in Dar es Salaam by Lesotho in their first Group L clash and sit in third position in the table.
