WOMEN BEST PLAYER OF THE YEAR 2019: Oshoala missing as FIFA name 12 players
Four members of the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup winning side, the United States of America, got named amongst a 12-woman shortlist for The Best FIFA Women’s Player 2019 award – based on their respective achievements during the period from 25 May 2018 to 7 July 2019 – compiled by a panel of experts in women’s football.

Nigeria’s and FC Barcelona Femini’s Asisat Oshoala however, failed to make the list. The 24-year old scored in the final of the 2019 UEFA Women’s Champions League despite her side losing 4-1 to Olympique Lyon’s Femini.

She also scored Super Falcons’ first goal at the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup in France – the 2-0 group B victory over Korea Republic and was a member of Nigeria winning side at the 2018 Africa Women’s Cup of of Nations last November.

USA’s World Cup winning quad of Alex Morgan, Megan Rapinoe, Rose Lavelle and Julie Eatz alongside 2018 FIFA The Best winner Ada Hederberg of Norway, were all named in the shortlist.
