Dorcas Adesokan, Nigeria and Africa's leading female badminton Women's Singles player, emerged champions at the just concluded Zambia International Badminton Championship, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The finals of the competition and the losing ceremony was held on Sunday 1st December 2019 in Lusaka.

Seeded number one for the tournament, Dorcas started her campaign with a clear two set whitewash of Uganda's Fatima Nabirungi 21-9, 21-6. She went on to defeat Egypt's Jana Ashraf in a dominating performance at 21-13, 21-13 in the Quarterfinals.

In what may seem like the assertion of Nigerian female players over onetime dominant African Champion, Hadia Hosny of Egypt, Dorcas Adesokan went on in the Semifinals to defeat Hadia Hosny 21-19, 21-16 to set up a Final encounter with a younger Egyptian, Doha Hany who had beaten former African Champion, the returning Kate Foo Kune of Mauritius 15-21, 21-13, 21-16 on her way to the Finals.

The Final game started with Dorcas narrowly losing out in the first game, 20-22 but rallied back nicely to confirm her ranking and seeding by taking the next two games, 21-18, 21-18, thus the final outcome of the Women's Singles Finals of the 2019 Zambia International came out 20-22, 21-18, 21-18 in favour of Dorcas Ajoke Adesokan, First seed of the tournament, Number One ranked Nigerian WS player, Number One in Africa and the reigning African WS Badminton Champion.
