Zenith Bank to release N24.6m for women’s b’ball league

The Nigeria Basketball Federation has said Zenith Bank, sponsors of the Zenith Bank Women’s League, will provide N24.6m for the 2018 season of the league.
In a statement on Wednesday, the NBBF said the decision was reached after a meeting with the bank’s officials.
The statement said Zenith Bank’s Group Managing Director Peter Amangbo, who was represented by the company’s Deputy General Manager Akin Ogunranti, said the company was proud to support the league.
He said the company was happy to continue their support for the new season, which begins on October 28.
“Over the past 13 years, Zenith Bank has sponsored NBBF/Zenith Bank Women’s National League as part of our contributions to the society and youth development,” he said.
“This is our core Corporate Social Responsibility which also has come a long way with partnership with the NBBF since 2005, beginning with just four teams and now has grown to 19 teams. We are indeed delighted that our intervention which has continued to yield tremendous result in the areas of women youth development.”
He added that the sponsorship has raised the profile of women basketball in Nigeria and contributed in no small measure to the discovery of many talents, many of whom played in the league.
Winners and first runners-up will represent Nigeria at the FIBA Zone 3 Women’s Championship qualifiers.
