U17 AFCON: CAF Names Women As Match Officials For Nigeria Vs Angola

Confederation of African Football has named three women match officials to take charge of the U17 African Cup of Nations second group A match between Nigeria and Angola in Tanzania, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

For the first time in the history of Africa football Women match officials will take charge of a match involving men with AFCON U17 presently going on in Tanzania being the experiment.

Trio of DR Congo Jonesia Kabakama, Uganda’s Mary Njoroge and Lidwine Rakotozafinoro officiating Nigeria’s Golden Eaglets and their counterpart from Angola.

Reacting to her selection , Jonesia said she is very excited about the opportunity.

“I am very happy to be appointed to AFCON U17. We are ready for the this tournament.

“No challenges for us, since they are young, we need to be very concentrated and protect them.

“I am already officiating in the Tanzania Senior men league and premier league, I started 10 years ago,” she stated.

A win for Nigeria will not only qualify the team for semifinal of the competition but also for FIFA U17 world cup slated for Brazil later in the year.
